dream catcher d.i.y.

Dream Catcher d.i.y. tutorials seem to be a dime a dozen. It’s obvious why though, they are too adorable. For my first d.i.y. project and my second post I thought I’d show you my own interpretation of the classic craft.

photoI gathered all the supplies around my house, therefore making the project vertically free, and somewhat unique. The items I used were: a wire hanger, spools of sewing and craft thread, scissors, feathers and some buttons I found without a home. So search around your abode and find some random treasures to recycle!

photo (1)Step 1: “Untwist” the wire hanger, and reshape it into a circle… square or really any shape you’d like! I went for a circular shape, not focusing too hard on making it “perfect”. In my opinion the unevenness gives it some character, and totally works for me.

photo (2)Step 2: Wrap the wire ‘shape’ with thread. I used a thicker crafting thread and arbitrarily wrapped clockwise through the circle. When you are out of thread make sure to tie a knot to keep the thread in place!

Step 3: By wrapping thread around the outside and across the center of your wire shape,  create a design to fill the inner portion of your dream catcher. I created a star, but there are tons of variations to choose from! Remember to tie another knot when you are finished!

Step 4: Attach feathers, buttons and various trinkets to your dream catcher. I used thread to create long “strands” and hung them from the bottom. I also attached buttons by “braiding” them into the thread. Get Creative!

Step 5: Choose fun colored sewing threads and “trace” over your original inner design. I used lavender & purple and wrapped the thread in the same star pattern as before.

Thanks for reading, and enjoy your hump day!
